You have overstepped the comfort zone. By snooping he now feels he is not trusted, by him saying you cant do it has raised your suspicions re his behavior. See what snooping does, it really gets you no where, if you suspected something then you should ask up front, would have been the same outcome of him being peeved with you but at least you would not have been a snoop. Really if there was anything of such sort on his phone he would have deleted it.

at first, i did not have any intentions of sneaking into my partner's mobile phone before...but when he started using a pincode, he also used the mute options with the ring tone & message alert tone & keeps his mobile on his pocket all the time & hides the unit when we go to bed...damn! that was it. i believe i gained all the right to sneak into it and when i had the chance, i did...he's hiding his romance with another woman...

Yes, sometimes it means you just dont trust them, even when you dont have any reason not to. This may show them that you always suspect they are up to no good, and honestly no-one wants to be untrustworthy.

you are intruding his privacy and distrusting him...but there probably is something wrong within the relationship...otherwise you shouldn't have any excuses to be looking through his phone...
