Anyone who follows these question and/ or my answers knows I am a die hard Confederate (even wishing we had won) but I write facts not opinions. In the last few years research and events tend to agree with you after the Dahlgren raid the Confederacy was so incensed especially since Lincoln had condoned the affair they felt the gloves were off. I think Davis sanctioned the hit on Lincoln though he he not visualised the events and surrender. I agree I think Mudd was in it, many people would rather quote folklore and daydreams . God Bless You and Our Southern People.

My personal belief is that Dr. Mudd played a role in aiding and abetting Booth after he fell from the stage and broke his leg. He had known Booth for a few months but I do not believe a direct involvement can be proven.Yes, familiarity with a person of dubious distinction can make you look suspicious but it is like saying I was acquainted with Richard Nixon and Mitchell,Dean and Haldeman so you must have been involved with Watergate. I don;t believed Dr. Mudd should be totally exonerated but put in the class of a minor bystander because of what he did for Booth. Many people hated Lincoln and I do believe he found it highly suspicious that Booth did do something horrible because he knew of his Confederate sympathies and his eagerness to get away.

believe the main argument for Dr. Mudd's relations was the fact Dr. Mudd was performing his duties as a physic an and did no more and no less than he would for any other patient. am not quite convinced however because of other information. feel it is a shame that there was much evidence which was deliberately destroyed by the Lincoln family as this evidence might have solved a lot of the mystery surrounding Mr. Lincoln's assassination.

I know very little of Mudd's involvement: perhaps he wasn't entirely innocent, yet unless you are implying he killed Lincoln, the significance of his involvement isn't all that noteworthy.
Lincoln was shot at close range and mortally wounded. Booth almost certainly is responsible for his death.

I've read a lot about this...Dr. Mudd was completely innocent of any crime or conspiracy. So was Mrs. Surratt.

People were more knee-jerk back then than we are even today!
