In Hindu system they give lot of importance for marriage. Every human has to pass through 4 stages in their life-- Brahmacharya(celibacy-student period) Garhyastha (married life) Vanaprastha (retiring from the duties) and Sanyasa(renounciation). Execpt in the first and last wife will give company and provide support in the remaining 2 periods. One will get married to keep the family flow unintrupted so that they can handover the family traditions to the next generation. Every human being is born with 3 debts. They are Devarina can be redeemed by learning and chanting Veda, Pitrurina to be redeemed by giving a birth to a male child and Bhutarina by feeding the animals , disabled, guests etc.The entire marriage system was made as a sacred one. That is why divorce was unheard off in Hindu marriage. Both live together and take a oath in marriage cerfemony that both will remain together in their persuits of Dharma (following righteousness) Artha (earning money and spending) Kama (in fulfilling their desires) and Moksha (while leaving the body and travelling abode). To have a compatiable and harmonious living for persuing the objects of life the marriages were conducted among the people of same belief. With changing times people started parting from the path in search of their personal goals. In the earlier system they used to compromise and sacrifice their likings. Whereas now personal needs occupy the immediate reuirement. The number of divorce and separation cases are on the increase and harmony, respect to elders is coming down. People whop believe in the traditional system call it a taboo but the present generation may call it a revolution. The whole life is a cycle moves apart and come back to the original position after some time. Our life time may not be adequate to witness the cycle to complete.

Because, despite the law and the preaching against it, caste has survived this day. For caste so doing , there must be a strong reason. It serves its purpose at the time of marriage. However liberal and modern you are , you turn to caste for fixing an alliance for your ward. Caste as an institution, has served its purpose as a vehicle for fixing marriage, where arranged marriage is the order of the day.
