I know the media has been talking about this being possible for sometime. I was just curious if it seems to you that it has quietened down a bit? Do you think we are still heading to a recession, and if so why or why not?

The economy will almost certainly slow down from last year. Whether or not this meets the technical definition of a recession (2 quarters of consecutive negative growth) is never a certainty.

If the inflation numbers stay good, however, I wouldn't look for anymore rate hikes. Plus, erratic rate hikes are not how the Fed typically handles itself, anyway.

Nope, the US media is obsessed with scenarios of impending doom, which is why they have such a fetish for recessions. But there appears to be little or no reason to expect it, aside from the reality that there is always maybe a 12-15% chance of it in any given year.

With the price of oil stable at the moment, I don't think a recession is on the cards.

No. Our economy is fine, The media has to keep us worried to make a profit. The worse thing that I can think of happening is raising our taxes. If you recall, JFK was also against that.

I wonder if the 50% of the homeless who are families with children think we are in a recession? I wonder if the BILLIONS being spent in Iraq would help them any?

No. According to the IMF the UK economy's growth has been "impressive" and will continue to grow.
