Well from a food perspective.

- Fertilizers (now almost completely chemical) enhance crop growth.
- The systems that carry water to the fields are all based on materials that are created via chemical understanding. Al the way back to the cement and concrete used in the aqueduct.
- Harvesting requires tools that are most made from metal, so metallurgy comes into play.
- The pests that devour crops are controlled by pesticides, again chemical – even the organic pest treatments.
- When we store the crops we use chemicals to preserve them. Like CO2 in the bag off mixed greens, or phosphine in a grain elevator full of wheat.
- Our packages for food are all made from materials that were created through a better understanding of chemistry.
- The food is delivered to its ultimate point of use by vehicles and fuel that are chemical.
- We have done a great deal of genetic engineering on crops to enhance them. This work involves elements of chemistry.
- We sometimes grow crops under controlled settings (hydroponically or with artificial light). There is a great deal of chemistry involved in these aspects of crop production.
- The people that produce our food, eat food which is (can you guess) a CHEMICAL!
