Please help, I am having no luck with getting my wireless network working properly. At the moment I have a 3com router that is linked up to laptop using a wirless card. Recently, I tried to add a third pc to the network, and have noticed that the wireless facility has ceased to work altogether. In the third machine, I get connected but get the message 'access denied' when trying to open IE.
Am I better off switching over to a wired connection for two machines, and leaving the laptop wireless. Should I get it professionally installed. I need a permanent solution. Thanks.

If the problem is occuring only on the thrid PC, then the cause is likely to be something to do with the config of that PC, not with the network itself.

From the info you have provided, it sounds like you may have a firewall on the third PC which hasn't been configured to allow network traffic via the wireless network.

I have set up a few wireless routers in my time, personally I am no network expert but I have a reasonable knowledge level. You may encounter problems with a few different settings along the way. Professional installation is something to consider if you cannot find a solution on some IT forums yourself or 3Com themselves cannot provide a support solution.

If your wireless network does not appear on your machines then you may consider altering the 'channel' or frequency it is sent out on normally you will have channels in your router set-up menu numbered 1-14 and some cannot be picked up by certain wireless receivers.

I could list a few possible causes but to be honest there could be so many different causes a wired solution is very reliable if you find it is not necessary for your PC's to be mobile wired can also provide a higher transfer rate in general.

Hope this helps, to summarise if you haven't already seek help from 3Com, IT Forums, and failing this try wired network.

and that i'm assuming you apart from mght positioned the username as 'admin' additionally? in case you probably did and nonetheless have been given denied from get entry to, i could look at whoever set that consumer suggestions around the living house. changing the password on your WiFi will require you to, for sure, get entry to the router and go into "uncomplicated -> community" settings. there will be a container so you might exchange the shared key - aka the WiFi key.
