I recently had the transmission replace on my 2003 Mazda 6s V6. There's a whole backstory behind the reason why involving another mechanic messing with my tranny, and then it dying while i was driving the next day. I won't get into all the details but what I DO need to know is what the life of an automatic transmission is usually for this kind of car.
Thanks in advance!

Well first of all mazda shares this platform with ford....so your transmission is a ford transmission. I would guess that on average 135,000 is ok, 150,000 is good and that anything over 200,000 is great. Its very possible to get more but you must make sure that you change the fluid every 30,000-40,000miles. NEVER ever ever shift the car into a gear while its rolling the opposite way(like your in reverse then while rolling back slam it into drive) that will kill a transmission faster than anything. But with that said the amount of pressure that you shift with on an automatics shift handle is irrelivant(guy above must have been thinking of a stick).

Transmissions have a pretty long life...depending on these
-How you Drive it
-How you maintain it

If you take care of the tranny and change the fluid when needed, and not abuse it (hard shifting, Neutral drops, rolling shifts)...it shouldn't be a problem to go for 100,000-200,000.

I have a MX3 that has over 210K miles...and the tranny shifts fine.

I hope things get cleared up for you.

Depends on how you drive, if you have it serviced regularly, and in what types of conditions you drive it in. If you abuse it and don't have it serviced its not going to last you very long. My 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee has 190,000 miles on it and the transmission is still going strong.

It all depends on how hard you drive and if you get the transmission fluid and filter regularly replaced.

it depends on how you drive the car and how often you have the transmission serviced. it should last between 1.5 and 3 hundred thousand miles depending on these circumstances. If treated properly and serviced regularly it is possible for it to go farther

Depends on how you drive it. You like yanking on the stick (no pun intended) you can destroy it pretty quick. You treat your car with a little tlc it can last you a lifetime. Normal driving shouldn't give you any problems for at least ten years if car is serviced regularly.

The tranny and the car itself should last the same amount of time as long as you take care of each of them.

I would expect at least 100,000 miles on it and would not be suprised with 150,000 miles. That is assuming you drive normal, etc.
