Do you think it constitutes child abuse to stigmatise and burden children with unneccessary labels and give them powerful, often dangerous drugs often against their will and use them as scapegoats? Do you think this WHOLE business entails child abuse?

If a child has ADHD then they should be treated 4 it....where did all this child abuse business come from? since when is giving children everything they want the right way of raising a child? if a child doesnt want to be vaccinated against potentially fatal diseases nobody yells child abuse. labelling is it's own issue, but just because labelling has side effects it doesnt mean that we should ignore instead.

I think it can be considered as abusive in some respects.

Labeling a person is bad not matter what. Stupid, jerk, etc. Even ADHD has negative connotations.

I think drugs and therapy to help the kids redirect their concerns, energies, and emotions can work but most that are diagnosed as adhd actually are mis-diagnosed as they more than likely have an anxiety disorder instead.

no, because while you see ADHD as an unnecessary label others see it as a disorder. I think denying the existence of a disorder is the real injustice, no one denies dyslexia even though there is no way to prove that those who have it actually have it, but for some reason certain people hear about ADHD and immediately think its all a lie. The world must still be flat too.

I don't think that all cases are unnecessary but most are, now days when a child is just more active and needs special attention, instead of giving them the attention they need we dump drugs down their throats, I think that doctors should look a lot closer before they diagnosis this

Something tells me you don't have ADHD or have a kid whose ADHD. There's more alternatives other than drugs. So you would eliminate all drugs for ADHD kids? Wouldn't that be a form of child abuse in itself?

ADD runs in my family. For those who have it bad, drugs helped (like being able to focus while in school - and being able to fit in socially with better skills). For those for whom it was mild, drugs would have been innapropriate.

Not everyone confuses ordinary rambunctiousness with ADD. Give credit to some of the parents and diagnosticians out there.

Are meds over-used? Probably.

Does that mean that they are never needed?

No.

You're right- we should let them have 14 ice cream cones, because that would not be against their will. Scapegoats to WHAT? You know, if you call EVERYTHING "child abuse", child abuse loses its meaning.

i don't think that every child that has been diagnosed really has it. i think that when it is misdiagnosed it is child abuse,on the part of the parents and the dr. who diagnosed.

i know several kids who i thought had it but as started to see the parents and the kids interact, i changed my opinion.
