Don't worry dear. I am surprised that the doctor did not tell you that it was very common to not hear the heartbeat this early. I am sure that everything is just fine. Be patient. I bet the next time you go you will hear that little heart just thumping away. It is such a beautiful sound! I don't blame you for being anxious to hear it.
Don't make yourself upset.
A great book to read for you now is "What to Expect When You Are Expecting" it will answer so many of your questions and keep you from wasting precious energy worrying.
Smile! You have SO much to look forward to!
Blessings

Try not to worry, I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks and they couldn't detect the heartbeat at that stage but when I had another at 8 weeks sure enough it was there and everything was fine. Sometimes its way to early to pick up the heartbeat at this stage in some baby's. Have another ultrasound in the next week and hopefully everything will be right for you!.

I even have on account that had 2 greater scans and the midwife has permit me pay attention to the babys heartbeat. they are asserting the infant is healthy and lively and has a solid, accepted heartbeat. i'm now 20 weeks pregnant and due my anomily test next week. wish this helps. dont worry yet, they couldnt find a heartbeat on mine at 7 weeks...if the baby is laying just right they may not be able to see it or hear it. they found the heartbeat on mine at almost 10 weeks and since then they have been able to find it fairly easy as long as the baby holds still for a second....im sure your baby has one heck of a ticker on it..it was just laying weird. relax and go to your next ultrasound, and hopefully the baby will be positioned so they can find it. good luck.

At 7 weeks the heart is really small and is very hard to see. They could see the sac, which is good. By 10 weks they should be ablt to see and hear the heartbeat. Try not to worry :-)

The doctor really shouldnt have even tried for a heartbeat at that early stage. I had my first one done at 16 weeks (approx) and they even told me then that there was a chance that they wouldnt hear it and not to worry about it. I did hear it, but this is still early for hearing the heartbeat. So please dont worry. When you go back and get this done, which is one of the most common tests they do at ante-natal you will start to hear it get stronger and stronger.
CONGRATULATIONS
