I am situated in an office away from the main factory where I work. The building I work in has gents toilets only (4 cubicles, 4 urinals and an enclosed shower. There are 2 women who work in this buidling, and are made to walk to one of three toilets situated around the site (all of which make us leave the building).

The nearest being approx 300 yards away. (considering we have to go outside in all weather)

Does anyone know if there is a health and safety policy regarding this matter?

the regluations that cover toilet facilities is the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992.

3) Facilities
Sanitary conveniences
(Regulation 20)
Suitable WCs must be provided
They must be easily accessible, ventilated and clean
Separate toilets should be provided for men and women unless they are lockable from within the toilet itself
If there is no running water or sewer, chemical toilets should be provided

there is no mention of distances of toilets from the workplace.

health and safety I am not sure of but I know they need a facility within a respecfully short didtance. one thing they could do is make the bathrooms co-ed though I don't know if that is a state by state thing or what. they should make the central one the female and the other 2 males even if there are urinals in them they could get signs making them females only. also i know there are laws about small bussiness they may not need to make it easy on you for lack of employees.

As long as Toilet facilities are provided within a reasonable distance, then everything is perfectly legal.

At my workplace they installed a disabled/ladies only toilet. It might be worth pursuing that line. Have you a Union? If so ask your rep' to find out. Otherwise ring the TGWU and ask.

I am not sure but I think as long as they provide you with a toilet they are within the law, it is not like they are saying you can't use it.....but the bathroom situation there really sounds " crappy.". LOL.

Quit complaining. You obviously do not realize how lucky you are. (Spoiled)You know how many people work in the weather and have to use a porta potty ( portable toilet) that they are lucky if it is cleaned out once a week. (Stinks) Count your blessings little Missy.

just ask the boss to provide a bucket and a ripped up newspaper that you can use, thus enbabling you to spend a penny and not having to leave the warmth of the building in these chilly winter months.
