agree to pay them back 1 pound a week or something. They are not allowed to force you into poverty

Every time you sign on you sign to say you have not worked; otherwise you have to declare what you have earned. You can only work up to 15 hours a week and get JSA and what you do earn in that time is taken into account when calculating what you are entitled to. You do not get JSA on top of what you earn. Are you claiming Housing benefit as well? Most people on JSA are entitled to that. If not contact your local council straight away and get it sorted. Make an appointment to see someone at the place where you sign on and sort out with them how you can repay the money you owe.

Your payments obviously didnt change when you started working. This sounds like it was their fault, I would go to the citizens advice bureau. They will be able to advise you on what to do. The jobcentre should have a copy of the paperwork from when you declared that you had started work and hopefully things will get sorted out.

I agree with tick work it out with it the only way they will play hard ball is if you ignore them or are flippant with them ask them if you can make a payment plan or even what would be the lowest they could accept from you as a weekly/monthly payment if they are still hounding or not wanting to work with you then go up the ladder to their supervisor, director or as far as you can. another thing you could do is go to the press if they won't work with you they made the mistake of overpaying you and are now being too agressive with you on getting it back in a way that will cripple you financially you will be quite surprised how accomidating they could be after that.

You may also look out for an option to work online to make extra cash in your spare time. I am a part time worker doing work online at home, so I would like to share a link where you can make $600-$1500 in a month working at home. The work need to be done is posting/answering a discussion and uploading any photo/image of your interest. For details visit

I will publish few more genuine site in couple of weeks, where you can earn money. You may also write to me at talkofmoney@rediffmail.com (Note: When u are planning for a home based online work, be careful because most of them are scam and ask you to pay initial money. never pay money to any such site.)

I would explain you situation and arrange a better payment plan to pay them back. If you have a part time job I am sure that you won't be entitled to job seekers any more, Might have to find another part time or a full time job or ask for more hours at your current job if they can do it.
