I thought Heath Ledger's performance was very excellent- the perfect nuanced delivery of a quiet, drawn-in man fighting inside himself, so I vouch for him.

Both men were spectacular, though.

Gosh, I just watched that movie for the first time tonight and I must admit the guy that shot the scenery probably deserves the oscar more than any of the actors.

The acting was shocking. A great screenplay that was wasted with a series of bad acting.

Heath would more likely get my vote as an actor, but he really needed to do a couple of scenes a bit better, really, I laughed when I should have been crying.

Beautiful story though. Someone needs to do it again, and spend a bit more time on getting the actors to play a little more realistically.

Well I could barely make out what the Heath Ledger character was saying, half the time, and the Jake Gyllenhaal character to me seemed to be overplayed.

I didn't rate the film that highly, the only Oscar I would've nominated it for was to the Director of Photography. Those wide shots of the countryside stirred more in me than anything the two principal characters got up to.

To answer your question though, Heath (for all his bumbling) did play a better shy man than Jake did with his outspoken character.

Heath...

If you watch carefully, there's some much expression and feeling going on in his eyes. Watch the beginning when they're stood outside that portakabin. Look at Heath's eyes... no need for words during that sequence, his posture, movements, facial expression tells you everything you need to know.

Heath was wonderful, Jake was so-so.

Heath. He is from Australia and speaks with a heavy Australian/British accent. He now has a baby with his Brokeback Mountain wife.

Heath...although his character seemed withdrawn, his expressions got my nod as being a better actor.
