The classically trained tenor, Seán à Sé, was born in County Cork, Ireland, and his recording of An Puc ar Buile was the nearest the Irish language came to enjoying a pop chart hit. Another of his songs, 'Carrickfergus' is still often sung, but rarely with the histrionic styling employed by à Sé in a macaronic rendition, entitled Do Bhà Bean Uasal. à Sé's rendition of 'InÃon an PhailtÃnigh' (The Palatine's Daughter) does bear a very close resemblance to the kind of crowd-stirring performance that Kevin Conneff would later employ as a member of The Chieftains. His latest recording (with Ceoltóirà Chualann) is 'à Raida sa Gaiety' (Gael-Linn, available from Copperplate Consultants, e-mail alan.oleary@btinternet.com) and the CD 'Irish Heritage' on the Outlet label is also available online. Can't find any personal details re this singer.
