When my baby is dry, fed, burped, warm, and well, and he's still crying how long is ok to let him cry. I don't want him to think if I cry I get held. He stops crying when I pick him up. So how long is to long, he is 7 weeks old.

The more you hold him the less he will cry. That is true over a long period of time as well. A baby that is held often becomes a happier toddler. He is too young to spoil - so don't worry about that. Don't feel guilty about wanting to hold him. It's OK. The time for teaching discipline is not for a long time.

But if your are frustrated & he is in a safe spot it is OK to let him go for a few minutes so you can "destress" - heck it can be stressful to hear a baby that is crying! That is OK too.

My mom always said babies cry for only a few reasons - they are hungry, they hurt (daiper wet or pinching), they are colicky, or they just want to be held. Looks like your little one just wants to be held. Live it up - it doesn't last long!

At seven weeks old all they know is comfort so I would pick him up soth him give him his dummy and shush him rock him and pat his bottom, they also cry if they are too warm, too cold uncomfortable in their bed ( sometimes change their positions from side to side to back to side every couple of days) they scream their lugs out when they have wind. My little daughter is 4 months old she had a problem with sleeping- she just never slept at that age She wanted to be stimulated too much, then she would become sleepy. Now she is sleeping well- sometimes she cries when she is overtired and that can be challeging but sooth her and rock her and she'll eventually go. Also make sure your baby doesn't need a top up of milk like mine did to settle him they grow so fast. mine is at the squealing stage with everything she wants she squeals, even at her age-4months she still needs to be picked up to be soothed so I feel its never too much good luck I hope I was of some use.

He's lonely. He's 7 weeks old for crying out loud. He was inside of you for 9 months and now he's out in a big scary world and he NEEDS to be held. If you need to get on with stuff get a sling and put him in that. Ask friends to come over and hold him, but HOLD HIM!!! He needs the security from you now until he can internalise it.

For a new born, you should not let him cry. He does not realize that he can manipulate you by crying to make you hold him. That comes way later like when he is 2 years old. For another year and a half, give him all the affection he needs and he will turn out great. That is what we did for ours.

He is only 7 weeks old,so may just want to cuddle.whole you want to get some work done LOL try patting him off to sleep very softly and follow his breathing until you feel the change and slow it down with the breathing.once he is asleep and you are hardly patting ,stop and he should be out like a light .

why wouldn't you want to hold your baby if he's crying. when my son cried i picked him up. i didn't buy into what people say about not picking him up. my thinking is if a baby is crying its for a reason. picking him up builds security and trust. something thats our job as a parent to teach them. my thought was i wanted to be the one he trusts most and can rely on when he needs me. he's 18 now. we still have a close bond and he is healthy and well adjusted. he confides in me and i still want to be someone he can put at the top of his list on people he can trust the most.

He's 7 weeks old! For goodness sake it isn't going to warp him if you never put him down at this point.

i don't think you should'nt let your child just lay there and cry. I don't think you can give to much love or attention to your child.
