Pavlov was a behavioral psychologist, who rang a bell when he fed the dog, so the dog would salivate. Then he rang the bell & didn't feed the dog, but it still salivated, because it was conditioned to be fed when it heard the bell.

Ivan Pavlov would stimulate an animals unconditioned reflexes by ringing a bell each time before feeding the dogs, after awhile the dogs came associated with the sound and just from the sound of the bell they would start to drool even with out the sight or smell of food.
