4 years ago i declared myself bankrupt, one of the companies that were on the bankruptcy were Barclaycard. I am now discharged from bankruptcy and have opened a basic account with Barclays bank which i have not yest paid into. My concern is that if i pay into this account can they take the funds against my old Barclaycard bill even though it was on a bankruptcy order?

No they can't. But I'm amazed they let you open an account with your credit record.

Absolutely not - any money you receive after discharge is yours alone and no-one has any claim to it, regardless of what you might have heard. However, I strongly recommend that you do NOT try and rebuild your credit with a parent company who you included on your order, as this will take a hell of a lot longer than you might think. Instead, open a FlexiSaver account with Nationwide (so long as they weren't also included) - it's an unscored account so anyone can get it, and depending on your behaviour over the first 6 months, you might find yourself in possession of a debit card a lot quicker than you would at Barclays. Just use as many of their products as you can (e-banking, online savings account, standing orders etc.)

Hope this helps

no they can't. but I am surprised they are letting you open another account with them. they usually will not let you do that if you have filed against them.
