Has anyone got any ideas where to go and what to see on our way to Dubrovnik. Last year for the first time we toured Europe in our car stopping at Troyes, Mont Blanc, Lake Garda, Venice then Italy, we loved it but now we want to head down to Dubronvnic travelling through Germany, Austria. etc, etc. We would be grateful for any ideas re points of interest and idyllic settings on the way. Last year we travelled no longer than 4-5 hours arriving at about midday then staying for 2 nights then moving on to the next destination. Staying for possible 3 nights at the final destination then trying to return a different way. Any ideas would be welcomed

From Calais take the E40 to Koln. You will pass Bruges, Gent, Brussels, Liege and could turn off over the border into Holland to Valkenburg before you reach the German border. All places worth a visit. Valkenburg has very reasonable hotel rates and there's plenty to see in the surrounding area.
Koln is magnificent and definately worth seeing but I would travel further down the Rhine to Koblenz for the overnight hotel or maybe a little further to Boppard. Great hotels, vineyards, wine, shops. A Rhine cruise (approx 2 hours) is worth doing. You can get tickets in Boppard at the river frony itself and the boats run regularly. Carry on down the Rhine the next day and try not to miss Rudesheim - it's very quaint and picturesque. The drive is stunning. As you carry on through Germany you have several choices of routes. Ideally you need to head for Munich via Stuttgard is easiest. Not nice but interesting is Dachau concentration camp just outside the city. Munich is great and there is absolutely loads to do. From Munich, I would travel to Saltzburg. Again so much to do you are really spoilt for choice. Then down over the borders to Dubrovnik. Coming back I would vistit the Austrian Tirol. Loads of nice places to stay. If you go up the Wildshounau there is a very nice hotel called the Harfenwirt. It is run by a man called Herbert Thaler, he also plays the harp in a little inn, that has belonged to his family for generations, further up the road and he is a real character. carry on through the Tirol. Don't miss Innsbruck it's wonderful. You can then carry on towards lake Constance (beautiful) and then travel up through the Black Forest. Freiburg is another wonderful place to stay and from there carry on up to Heidleburg. Unmissable especially the castle. Then back through Belgium and home. Alternatively you could go home through France but I personally prefer the Belgium route. Hope this gives you a few ideas.

Are you into thermal springs and/or wellness clinics?
Just been to Terme Catez in Slovenia, and it was fantastic. Swim in 32*c water while its 5*c outside, get massages, eat, get facials, eat, swim some more, etc, etc.
Have you been to Zagreb? Thats a nice city to visit. What about Plitvice in the north east of Croatia? Thats really beautiful. Its a whole lot of waterfalls and lakes all cascading into each other. Nice in summer, but equally beautiful to see when snow is all around in winter.
And dont miss Island Hvar when you go down south. It has the best weather in Croatia. And last of all, don't miss Zlatni Rat, a triangular beach on Island Brac.
Happy travels!!

I would go east from Germany and visit Czech and even Hungary on the way. Both beautiful, safe and with very reasonable pricing.
I would stop in Carlovy Vary (Carlsbad), Prague, Plzen (home of lager beer) and in a place on lake Balaton like Balatongorsky or so.
Have a good trip

yes in Germany you could go via Koln, then down to Heidleberg which is a famous university town, then over to the Mosel valley to see the many vinyards, from there you could head back to Munich before heading into Austria. All of Austria is interesting no matter where you go. from there you can cross the border into Slovenia go to Ljubljana then to Trieste , from there u can follw the coast road down to Split and onto Dubrovnik

you will squish in Berlin. 4 nights in Paris are sufficient. Bruges is a small city which you will locate in one day, so 2 nights are greater desirable than sufficient. i've got not been to Amsterdam, yet i do no longer think of you like 4 nights there, 3 nights would be sufficient. Vienna is likewise potential in 2 nights. that could desire to offer 4 nights in Berlin.
