I work with a lady in her 50's and so far, she has contradicted everything I've said. Not that she really has to, but she has never, ever agreed with me on any matter. To my knowledge, I've not noticed her do this with anyone else in my workplace (although, I suppose I'd notice it more, as I sit opposite her). Does anyone know?

No, she does this whether there's anyone else around or not.

She probably has hidden issues like jealousy or you seem better than her in her sick mind. She doesn't like you and doesn't have the guts to tell you face to face so why not sabotage you mentally?? Right. If you confront her in an aggressive way, she'll try to get you fired; so play her own game. Head games. good luck

Either everything you say is completely wrong - or - it's a kind of habit she's in, doesn't even realise she's doing it. I think it's the second one. I doubt if she wants to undermine you, or put you down, and maybe she does it to you because (I seem to remember from another of your questions) you're a temp, so she feels she can get away with it.
I think you said you were happy temping, but, you know what ? You might be better off in a permanent job where people have time to get to know and respect you. Take Care.

Could depend on your age, appearance etc,. Could she feel threatened or jealous by you? Try contradicting her next time and if she notices you can point out that you learnt it from her. If she doesn't notice then she is just vain, big-headed and a conceited know-all. There are a lot of them about.
Don't be afraid to answer back because she certainly isn't afraid of speakikng her mind.

I knew a girl who used to do this to me all the time, it didn't matter what I said she always had something to say to make me look wrong, always a 'yeah but...' or a 'you can't say that because...' she did it constantly no matter what I said. I think it is their way of trying to make themselves look smart and dominating of other people. Does she do it when there is no one else there? I bet she does it when there are lots of people around, I think self esteem issues and acceptance issues lie behind it. Next time she does it just say light heartedly 'isn't it amazing how every time I say something you have something to prove me wrong' and deliberatley say things you know she can't contradict and watch her squirm to come up with something, I always enjoyed doing that.

This woman has lost her opportunity to succeed and is probably treading water until her (or her husband's) retirement. Her children have left home, her husband has probably lost interest in her and life is pretty mediocre. Rather than devote herself to a pleasure away from from work, she gets her gratification from bullying a much youger colleague. I get the impression that you may be a bit of a loner and therefor more vulnerable to this type of treatment than a member of a pack.
Try to avoid letting this woman see that she is getting to you and maybe she will get fed up of goading you.

Shes afraid, very afraid. Her looks no longer exist and you threaten her with youth. The best form of defence is at tact.this woman is going about things in completely the wrong way and harassing you.She needs counselling or she wont get to a ripe old age in the right state of mind.Jealousy causes cancer.

maybe she is a contrarian , she just likes to put the opposite view. such people are good debaters and one can learn from them. However it does get frustrating. you should talk to her , she probably does not know she is doing it. or she thinks she is the bees knees and knows better and wants to let everybody know that. good luck to you if she is

you could just try speaking to other people at your work to see if they think she's an obstructive old cow as well. she probably cant help herself so try just making polite smalltalk about the weather/tv/clothes etc. or rub it in her face that you're younger ("GAWD! I HAD SUCH A GREAT WEEKEND, PARTYING ALL NIGHT etc...soo what did you get up to?...oh knitting again, that's erm interesting, nice to have a hobby, keep you busy etc etc")
Hope this helps

yeah talk to others about it to see if they agree she is being rude and argumentative with you, you'll feel better with their support then you can either laugh it off or blank her completely, if she buts in your conversations then pretend you didnt hear her - she'll get the message soon enough..
