Love and respect all the time. Gratitude? Less often unless she regularly does something 'above and beyond' for you. Children are their own reward, Mothers are usually happy if their children are happy and well-adjusted.

to the extent that you feel grateful for all she has done for you.
from birth- diapers- twisted teen years and on. of course there are limits and i think those limits come in when you are asked to cross moral lines such as i would not rob a bank for my mom because it crosses my moral limits, but i do buy her groceries when she is low on cash. i spend 3 times more on her than i do my siblings at christmas. i'd never disrespect her due to respect and memories of the fat lip when i tried it at 13. but mom's dont live forever so while she is around she should be as important as your spouse.

you should have a clue by now. your mother isn't just an authority figure and there should already be a relationship between you. as you get older you learn common courtesy. most relationships seem to work with it. this lady has cared for and nurtured you and you got this far because of her. she didn't ask for your thanks or anything. but i'd say she deserves a special place in your life and especially in your heart.

you can never show enough. to me my mom meant a great deal. she loved flowers, when she ended up in the hospital just before she past away, i saw that she had fresh flowers to enjoy and brighten her days, i know it meant a great deal to her. it was just a small way to show my love to her and in my way express my gratitude for all she had done for me. mom's are great.

depends ,what kind of culture /background they have & whether it overlap yours.
We need to be clear about one thing that in-laws can not replace parents & same should be understood by them also.
It's their child with whom one needs to spend life & to dvelop an understnding ,hence relation with in-laws should be maintaintained upto an extent help your marrige not otherwise.
