With people from all over the world debating the whole celebrity Bog Brother row and now Channel 4 deciding whether to continue with the show or not; if the bullying was homophobic and not racial, would it have had the same public/media impact?

Remember you've got the Archbishop of York steaming in saying the Racial comments are like MRSA - would we have stood up for gay and lesbian people?

I'm not interested in whether you think being gay is right or wrong. Bullying is bullying at the end of the day - but would it have had the same global impact? Would channel 4 be threatened with having it's license revoked?

I think the punishment is so much bigger than the crime. There are people who are ageist, sexist and homophobic out there, but these issues are not dealt with in the same way. I am always reading sexist comments and ageist comments and the press get away with it, but when someone said it was racial, it crates hysteria. Considering Jade has black in her, I don't think that she was being racist. I can not believe that something so petty can became something so large that even Gordan Brown has to get involved.
The British are called PO Ms by the Australians and that is not a nice word it means prisoners of her/his majesty. So should the Australians not have that name, considering that they were the prisoner? The British don't get up in arms when they are called POMs, so why is packy worse?

That a good question,I should hope that it would be treated in the same way as this Jade racial issue, but somehow,I'm not sure that it would be.As you say, bullying is bullying and should not be allowed to happen anywhere, let alone national television!

i dont think so..the whole BB controversy got so huge because the people and media in India were outraged abt those incidents and soon it became a political issue. If it had something to do with gay people, dont think it would have mattered that much, firstly coz it wouldnt have outraged a nation or somethin, and dont think that would have become political. And i dont thinkl as many people in UK would hav been that bothered.I think most people would have laughed it off,not that i would.

Thats an interesting thought to ponder. I think that perhaps it would have had an impact, but perhaps not to the scale that the racial argument had.

I think any 'out' gay man or woman would be able to stand up for themselves, and give as good as they got..
However, I don't think there would be much the same crisis, as homosexuality is seen as a sin by most religions.
