When I play cribbage with my 86 year old grandfather. I let him win. He can't see (macular degeneration) and he is frail. I'd rather let him win and listen to him rub it in and hassle me over it than win because I had a better hand. It makes for better memories for when he will be gone. The argument would be with my mother. She lets fate take the chance of him winning vs her. I'd rather make sure he holds onto his "title" of the cribbage king than just making hash marks on a piece of paper.

To be honest, it is NOT out of kindness, but only to avoid an argument, that I let my neighbour win regularly when we play a simple game of cards. (I hate arguments, or angry looks at me)

I always let my da think he is right, because my ego can handle the blow better than he can. He likes to argue, so I try my best to give him a small battle, then let him win. All the time.

I used to let my ex mother-in-law win at cards, because she was a very bad loser and when she lost she accused everyone of cheating. So I would cheat as much as I could to make her win.

Sometimes I give every other person who answers a thumbs up even if they just say something like "huh?" and then I star the question. You might notice something like that.

just to avoid an argument? now that's a hard one..

if that's the case, knowing that the other person would argue with me if i won, then i won't be playing with him to begin with.

but while playing with my kid cousins, i often let them win just to boost their confidence. but when they start to gloat that they beat me, then ill be playing for real.

I let my last date win at chess, because I wanted him to give me some love before he left. Last Friday night.
