microsoft is a corporation. it is a board controlled company, Gates was CEO and stepped down one rank to do more work on other projects. But as major stockholder (or one of them) he still racks in the big bucks.

It's a public owned company (share based) with Bill gates owning a major portion of it. Bill Gates started it and is it's CEO.
