I am thinking about purchasing a fully-loaded 1998 Honda Accord with 107,000 miles on it, and I would have to pay $4,200 dollars for it. I am a full-time student and I work about 30 hours a week and I am trying to find a reliable car that would not cost me an arm and a leg.

I have had many people tell me that Honda is famous for building long-lasting, reliable vehicles and I am trying to get additional opinion before making a decision.

AND PLUS IT IS IN BLACK, MY FAVORITE COLOR!!

Don't believe all the hype! A car is only as good as YOU take care of it! If whomever had it before you maintained it then yeah it might be worth it but if they cut corners and only fixed it up a little to get rid of it. Well good luck.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. To make sure you know what you have, get a CarFax on it ( http://www.carfax.com ) by it's V.I.N. to make sure it has a clear title or never been in a major car accident.

Also, make sure it's not due for a smog check within then next 6 months, to avoid any possible expensive repairs needed in order to licence and register the car to be legal to drive if you get it.

You can also find out what the car is worth on the open market by going to either Edmunds.com, KBB.com, or Nada.com and taking a look at the car's value.

If you want to be extra sure, you can take it to a reputable Honda mechanic, or the more expensive Honda dealership and have it inspected for possible major servicing possibilities to give you an idea at your your future expenses. Even though it seem to have been driven an average amount of miles, it still has over 100k on it and is considered to be a wholesale car, and now matter how reliable a car is, parts do tend to wear by this point.

If it looks positive after all of that, you're probably in the black (i.e. in the plus zone) for this car you're considering. If you do decide to purchase this car, unless you know for a fact that the car has had it's oil changed recently (i.e. within the last 2-3 months), it will be in your best interest to get the oil changed as soon as possible and keep it changed every 3 months or 3k miles.

I still have my 1992 Civic I bought used in 1994 and it has 180,200 miles on it and other than a little rust around the left rear wheel, the car is great! I have done the usual brakes, tires, and tune ups over the years, but that's to be understood. I'd buy the car. I have had 6 over the past 29 years, and still have 2 of them. MY 2001 Civic is black! Go for it!

only issue for this mileage, make sure the timing belt has been changed or get it changed as its very due.

the price alone is a steal, even if the timing belt hasn't been done or isn't included. should be more like $5995 minimum.

I have owned 7 Honda Accords and all were good cars, even my Honda CRX was a good car. Only bad car to date Honda has put out was the Del Sol and that is no longer made.

HONDA'S ARE THE BEST!!!
BUT...
Take the VIN and CARFAX IT!!! YOU MUST DO THIS!! Dealers are LIARS!!! DO NOT TRUST THEM! This VIN will tell you if it has been wrecked, or rebuilt, and will tell you if it has had it proper maintainance done. 4200 is VERY LOW for a 98 Honda! It should be priced at around 6K. Be careful! Some retard probably owned it before and didn't know how to take care of it.

Yes, the Accord is a very reliable and practical car that still looks halfway decent even when they're 10 years old.

Hondas are typically very reliable and cheap to fix when there is a problem.

Make sure timing belt and proper maintenance has been administered to insure reliability. Coolant service, spark plugs, cap rotor, oil changes every 3000 miles, transmission service, etc.

this will make it last another 100K

Good luck,
KC

That car is just now getting broke in, buy it! it will last al ong time! nothing beats a honda! Allthough you might want to ask if the timing belt has been replaced because it is a reagular maintance requirement on that year of honda. It is required every 90,000 to 100,000 miles. It doesn't cost alot to get replaced! Hope this helps you!
