You can install a used unit, but it certainly is not worth the trouble, especially on a chrysler. I am making the assumption that your chrysler is a cirrius,Intrepid or avenger here. the degree of difficulty involved dictates that you hedge your bets on this and install a new unit, as it would be very frustrating to do all the work tearing your vehicle apart only to find that your used core is bad also. I have installed a new heater core on one of these vehicles, and do not wish to ever do it again. The customer was very irritated at the labor bill,he did not understand the intense labor involved in "gutting' the cabin of his car, not to mention the under hood work, just to accomplish this task.

You can but don't. Heater cores degrade when left open to the air its not worth the risk considering that its at least a 4 hour job in the driveway if you haven't done on before...maybe 8 hours. I just did the one on my cavalier and it took me about 3 hours (draining, filling ready to go) and cost me 31.99 for a new heater core.

Sure. you can get them at pretty much any bone yard. But i would not recommend ANY interior part like that be a used number. if it blows the next day, you are back to SOL status.
Spend the money, save the headache later.
