Most likely causes are:
- Motherboard is dying. Check to make sure the electrolytic capacitors (cylinder shaped) are not bulging or leaking; they should all be flat and clean at the top. If they have brown stains, or are curved at the top, they are leaking and the motherboard should be replaced.
- CPU is overheating (especially if overclocked). Do you have motherboard utilities that will let you keep an eye on this? Make sure the CPU fan is operating normally - also the case fan if installed.
- Dodgy memory. Download MemTest86 at http://www.memtest86.com/ and follow the instructions there to test for bad RAM.
- Power supply is failing. Swap with another PSU if you can. Also check that the power cables are OK.
- Virus, or corrupted program or Windows Registry entry. Visit http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ for a decent online virus scan. If it's a particular program it should only happen when you run that program; start Windows and disable anything you normally have running (you can usually do this from the System tray; make sure you show inactive icons too.) See if the problem continues. If not, it's likely to be one of the programs you turned off. Turn them on one at a time to see which one is the culprit, then reinstall or delete it. Try reinstalling Windows if this doesn't work.

hi,
This problem may be due to couple of reasons.
One would be the prob with o/s ie if the o/s is windows xp might be a corrupt instllation.
the other would be that system might be infected with any trogans or adwares or spywares and thus affecting the performance of the desktop and pc will stop at that point of time
the other reason would be that the problem might be with the hard disk on the desktop and might be the hard disk has many bad sectors or manufacturer failure.
so check with reseating the hdd and try to use a different pwr cable or data cable for the hdd.
then try using the hdd in a different desktop and see what happens and try to do a selftest of hdd from BIOS and check what happens.
try reinstlling o/s and many times that would resolve issue
bye

Actually this is happening due to dumping memory . This happens due to d problem in RAM. Remove d RAM and put it in the next slot. If the problem continues again, u have to replace your RAM. RAM usually have three yrs warranty. If u have crossed it, u have 2 buy a new one.

When it happens again go into your bios and check the cpu temperature.
It could be that as the computer warms up the problem occurs.

There must a loose connection somewhere or there must be a virus in your computer. Or, your leg is touching the restart button without your knowledge. Check it.
