They are riddled with injuries to top guys right now. They are lacking the heart it takes to go out there and win games. Ryan Smyth is playing frustrated because his contract negotiations are taking forever. There powerplay is horrible because they don't have a puck moving defenseman. But the injuries are the worst, Hemsky Stoll, Staios, Moreau, Tjarnqvist and Smyth earlier in the year. Take 5 or 6 top guys away from any lineup and you will see them suffer.

Obviously Luthyin has never been to an Oilers game in Edmonton or likely lived here either. It is one of the best hockey cities in the NHL. The fans broke a record for sound decibels during last years playoff. Most players say they LOVE to play in Edmonton. Every game is sold out and buying a ticket to a game is virtually impossible. Enough said.
The Oilers are experiencing growing pains. They desperately need a puck moving defenceman. Bergeron cannot do it by himself. They let George Laraque go this year and other teams are taking liberties on forwards like Hemsky and Smyth. I wonder if the Oilers will make the playoffs this year. Some of the players they traded for at the deadline last year moved on. They were not replaced. This team is only a player or two away from another cup run. The present group will not make the playoffs in my opinion. The Oilers need a mobile defenceman and another winger like Torres. Moreau is out till March. That is too late. He is the type of player we need up front. Until those holes are filled the Oilers may not go too well.

Simply put--nothing. Teams that lose the Final often struggle the following season. It's hard to put all that energy and emotion in and come up short.

If you honestly expected an eight seed to jump up in the standings after a Cup Final run, you really don't know much about the way the NHL has worked since expansion. Relax, if the Oil make the playoffs in '07, consider that a bonus.

I'm a lifelong Flames fan, but I'll try and be objective about this. I think that the Oilers have too many Europeans, so they get pushed around alot. Losing Laraque was a big blow, as was losing Pronger and Peca. A huge part of the 05-06 team is gone, and it's hard to replicate the success if no one is there. And it might be time for McTavish to go.

They have a weak defence, which is obvoius with Pronger leaving. The team also has a lot of rookies, so they need more time to come together. Rolly also has a few good games in a row, then he goes on a slide for a couple of games. They need to play the back-up now and again to give him more of a rest. They also need to play around with the lines more. They'll be fine, just give it some time!!

Its not so much the players, its just the fact that they have to live in Edmonton. Because we all know, no matter how good you did..at the end of the day you still have to go home to Edmonton and that's enough to drain everyone of talent.

Yeah and about all that.. I live in Calgary, I wouldn't even lower myself to living in Edmonton, I'm already close enough to it.

Though in all fairness, in our division, I want Edmonton to do good, along with us. I would love a series between them, the energy of it all would be amazing and it would almost make who won irrelevant...almost.
