Just look at the social mess our country is in right now. We can either admit we've done wrong and begin to clean up our messes, or we can pull a Roman Empire and continue to sink further into our own filth.

Maybe that's what they want -- the fall of the American Empire.

how come you religious conservatives haven't learned that a religious state and mandated morality, doesn't work?

source: the history of every nation with a state religion ever... one of those of note today: Iran...

Rome (the empire and republic) was pretty much the greatest nation/state ever... as far as duration and power, relative to the period...

what examples of a successful state do you have that doesn't have, what you call "moral anarchy"?

What do you suggest? Cameras in every room to monitor our behavior? Whose moral compass would you want us to live by? Generalizations like this one don't add much to civil discourse. Freedom not an easy path, but it is a better one than the path to tyranny. The Weimar government in Germany did tolerate a certain degree of immorality and decadence, but what succeeded it in 1934 was even worse. Morality is best left to the individual, not to the government.

It's ironic that you ask this question now. The religious right is at their pinnacle having elected the president and almost the entirety of the south-east's' representatives.

Maybe it's time the South secede and rename themselves JesusLand.

See ya.

"We"? Whose this "we" you're referring to? Have you got a mouse in your pocket?

And since anarchy is absence of authority, I presume you want official moral authority -- the establishment of an Official Church of America. It's not surprising that a CONSERVative wants to drag this country backward.
