America! I want to start my own biz; however my wife, son & I have been living at her parents home for 4 years, since we were 16, my son is now 4. We have grown, my wife is tired of being at her parents house, we are 20 years old now, I want to start my own business, my wife and I are also planning a wedding in August. My wife wants to start looking into a new home, But I want to start an insurance agency. She says my focus should be on getting us into a new home, not my business! What is your opinion?

You need to secure a stable financial income. While starting your own business is admirable at your age, it is very risky, especially since the two of you want to move your family out and have a wedding too. I would highly suggest getting a job with an insurance agency first, to get your heels wet & gain the inner-workings knowledge of the insurance industry.

I honestly have to say it's best if you got the new home first.
That way you will have all the freedom you like to pursue your
new business venture.
Living with her parents for four years would drive most guys
insane, and I'm sure she's ready for a place of her own.
I know it's important to have a good job and make an income,
but it's just as important to get your own place.
Are you sure there's not some underlying issue here?
Is it that 'you' prefer to live the easy life by staying with her parents, so you don't have 'all' the responsibility of supporting your family!
I really don't know!
But I 'DO' know that your wife and child should have their 'own' home now!

Ah America--the place where you can be what you want to be and do what you want to do-------within reason. You need to prioritize your lives. Do what comes first---you want a home of your own but-- without the money you can't have it---not without being deep in debt. Stay put, start looking for a way to make and SAVE your money. An insurance broker will probably be a good field...but you need to get the license--and that takes schooling. set your goals and find out what it takes---be realistic about it. And if you can't--a real Amerivcan will always do the next best thing---whatever that is---go out and find out. Stop the arguing and start working to get that dream--you will he happy when you understand that there is no finishing line--you just have to keep plugging away at your dream. Good luck.

dude, if your 20, living with your in laws, with a 4 year old kid, i think you should start by learning how to provide for your family. it sounds like you have done a bad job here. this is how this is supposed to work. go to school, get a job, find a girl you can be SERIOUS with, get a promotion and then get a place to live then have the kids. i know this doesn't always work out this way, but if you son is FOUR YEARS OLD!!! you need to get off your lazy butt and get a JOB good enough to put a roof over you family's head NOT SOMEONE ELSE'S ROOF!!! then you can worry about a career. starting a business takes commitment and intestinal fortitude, and it doesn't sound like you have either of those... oh yeah you also need MONEY to start a business, doesn't seem like you have much of that since you have been LIVING WITH YOUR WIFE'S MOMMY AND DADDY FOR FOUR YEARS!!! freeloader... what does she see in you?

wedding, then home, then business.

get a new aura, get married, get a home so u can live as usual married adults, then when money is no longer tight and ur experience is way off, then ur own business.

in my personal opinion, at 20, u still have a lot to learn about insurance or whatvere business u have in mind. family savings should go into building a family first, then the business. u'll be much happier...

You have to have an income to get a new home, don't you? If you already have a job and are just wanting to put your energy and money into starting a business, I would agree with your wife, that getting into your own home should be the first priority.

My advice to you is to start a new business first. I am confident you will be able to have a new home shortly after that.
But instead of insurence business, if possible start a company which provide Registration and Hosting services for Web Sites (I know it looks weird if you have no experience. but its too easy. Just need your will to wrok & very low investment. You can even atart from even US$200-500). Talk to a reputed company that you can resell their domain and hosting services. If you need any further info on this you can also contact me. technicaljan@

If you focus on your home first, You'll have more room and privacy to really elaborate on your business, however, starting a business takes a lot of money. Like they say, "you need money to make money" I say, Buy a small home. Just good enough, so then if your business flourishes you can buy a bigger house.

I would say getting into your new home is priority right now.
Why are you planning a wedding if you are already married? couldn't that expense wait and you start your own business instead?
