Intel Core 2 Duo is basically dual core processors and it outperforms all other desktop processors out there even though the clock speed is lower and it consumes less power.and can communicate with each other through the shared L2 cache....Intel Pentium D is two seperate core processors on one chip and to communicate with each other it has to go out through the front side bus and then back again

They are both very similar in the fact that they have two cores to handle different applications. where they are different is in the fact that the core two duo has the ability to handle a higher amount of information (two 4mb L2 cache compared to one 4mb L2 cache) to be processed at the same time than the dual core. therefor it has higher gigahertz (processing power) than the dual core. anyway if your looking to buy, go for the core 2 duo. and if you wait a couple of months or so their prices will drop significantly as computer manufacturers begin to use the Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme processor(which will blow 'em all out of the water).

Core2Duo. Mainly because they share the work load together. Dual core isn't the same. It means you can run processes on one and system processes on the other (as an example). Currently, the newest thing is quad-core processors which is basically 2 dual-core processors.

Core 2 Duo, though to be honest, it's all a load of rubbish, I can make a basic Pentium 4 run faster than those things without having to overclock it.

core2 are dual core processors, amd's chips are cheaper, but can't complain about their quality.
