Religious persecution is deffinately a start.. But I also believe that our curious nature wouldve landed us here eventually even if there was such a thing as world peace.

The Pilgrim's were Protestants being pushed around and out of villages in the 1500s and 1600s. They heard of a new land where they could build a new life and have their beliefs be the main religion. Also, they could create new laws that were generated FROM their religious beliefs without question.

Many of them lost their lives on the difficult journey across the sea - many of them from starvation and disease from living in close quarters. If you think about it, when they arrived in the 'new world,' they had to start from scratch! There were no houses or buildings to sleep in, or escape from the wind, rain and snow. They had to live on the boat and in make-shift tents while they built tiny shacks and hunted/fished for ALL of them to be able to eat. The Native Americans that were already established on the land saw their struggles and brought them corn and venison (or deer meat) and helped them. It was a peaceful, loving situation before militaries from all over Europe (mainly England, France, Spain and Portugal) began pillaging that which was not rightfully their's.

Thanksgiving is a day to celebrate the sacrifice of lives and absence of prejudices against different cultures. It was the giving up of selfish ideas for the good of the group.
