If you ask someone to be your "Valentine" on St. Valentine's Day, what exactly does it entail? What does it mean? Does a date have to be involved? Does either party have to do anything aside from agreeing that they'll be Valentines?

it just means you care about the person, no you don't have to date. a family member can be a valentine.

It just means you like them; these are mostly children... Adults should already know what they are doing without prompting ...duh!
