THE HOST CITY IS DECIDED A COUPLE YEARS BEFORE THE ACTUAL DATE BECAUSE THE CITY NEEDS TIME TO CLEAN UP THE AREA, FIX ANY BUILDING FIXTURES, ETC ETC ETC.

FOR EXAMPLE, THE SUMMER OLYMPICS ARE USALLY DECIDED 4-10 YEARS BEFORE THE ACTUAL DATE!!!

***THIS IS FACT...NOT OPINION***

Well, I understand why a game needs to be played in a neural stadium, but I do not know why it has to be a warm climate stadium or in a dome. I think it is unfair for cities like Chicago or Buffalo or Seattle whose city will never host the Superbowl. It is unfair that some cities will get 10s of millions dollars in revenue for hosting the Superbowl. The hotels and restraunts and merchants in these cities benefit, while other cities will never get the same oppurtunity.

So, I think one of two things should happen. The first would be that the Superbowl travels to every stadium. It makes it's rotation covering every team in the NFL. This means your favorite will get to host the Bowl once every 32 years.

The second one, which makes the most sense since we want the Superbowl to remain neutral, would be to build a SUPERBOWL. The NFL should build a stadium which will host the Superbowl. This would be a monstreous stadium with double the capacity of a normal stadium. They could have more luxury boxes. They could acutally have a hotel connected to the stadium which would allow you to watch the game from you room (Okie, might be going crazy here but, you get the idea). The Superbowl would not even have to be in a city. You can build the city around the Bowl. Much like Orlando was built around Disney World. Anyways...if the NFL controlled the stadium and the all the accomadations around the Superbowll, then all teams would share in the profits.

Just an idea. I am tired and just got my morphine shot for my back pain. But, I think a Super-Duper Bowl would be awesome and the most neutral.

The NFL decided a few years ago that the SuperBowl, in order to allow more people to attend in a comfortable environment, will be played in either a domed/atmosphere controlled venue or in a temperate climate location--i.e. here in Florida. It's all about being greedy and making it possible for everyone to buy tickets instead of just the die hard fans. Plus tailgating is a factor. More people will show up and tailgate, thus buying merchandise if it is 80 degrees than if there is two feet of snow on the ground.

And, the whole deciding a few years in advance [which is absolutely true] thing negates the home field advantage idea. What if the Dolphins had made it this year? It would still be held down in Miami.
The reason locations are decided years in advance is just like a previous answerer said: fixing things up. Among others are: adequate hotel accomodations for extra visitors, adequate roadways to handle extra traffic to and from main highways, adequate police/fire department size to provide adqeuate safety, etc. So, host cities need a chance to organize and make all these requirements happen. I am just glad we don't have a team here in Daytona, two superbowl sized events a year is enough--the 500 and Pepsi 400. And our "stadium" is bigger than any puny football stadium :P

Super Bowl venues are selected years in advance to avoid home field advantage for either team that makes it. Also, it gives those franchises additional revenues through tourist dollars and sports memorabilia sales. However, some cities have been getting more chances to host that others due to either being in warmer climates when the SB is played or the game is in a dome. Personally, I believe that every franchise should get the chance to host a Super Bowl, regardless of where they are located. This year is in Miami and next year is in Tampa Bay.

They dont want the game to be a disavantige so they put the game on a neutral field where both teams are capable of playing in a dome or warm weather because teams compete better in those conditions it is unfair for a team like the colts goin to chicago and playing but its fair if they play in miami

The host city of the Super Bowl is decided years in advance. This is so there is no home field advantage. The sickening thing is that it is never held in real football stadiums where the players are out in the weather....snow, rain, mud, snow, fog.....THAT is real football.

Domes are for sissies.
