I have a rubber grip, I sometimes put it in hot water so the cap expands.

Call the fire department and tell them your kid is trapped in the ketchup bottle and they'll bring over the Jaws of Life and open it up in a jiffy.

I take my sword and slice the top off ! Just like I saw in the
movies when they open up champagne!!! LOL
NO seriously I run very hot water on the cap and/or use rubber gloves . Works with any bottle or jar! Found that glove trick by myself one day and used it ever since.

Mom taught us to bang around the edge of the cap with a knife to break the seal inside. It works everytime, but then your cap looks a bit dented. Now I buy plastic squeezie bottles.

Tap the head.
A little shake on the body.
Then end it with a smack on the bottom.
Now, twist the cap....presto!
