In electricity it means something like a wire that conducts electric current between places. More generally, it can be anything that does that task, such as the ionized gas in a neon light. If it conducts electricity, it can be called a conductor. But, even more generally, you might apply the term to anything that conducts energy of any form, such as heat or force.
