We live in mass and it seems like no matter what you do you can't truly rehabilitate-he is incredibly smart and such a good person-you would never know he had a past-its the typical story of being a product of poverty and not really having a choice...does anyone know any advocasy organazations or websites or anyplace you can refer us to for info on this? its soo discouraging-i mean why do people think a record is the only way to know someone-the world is filled with pediphiles, criminals and morally corrupt people that may not have a black mark on their record by chance but destroy everything they touch. I would appreciate any feedback-please don't give me any negative or judgmental comments I don't want the discouragment please...thanx so much!!

Your Friend needs to AVOID careers in education, nursing and other medical fields, law enforcement and corrections, recreation, social work. These entail detailed background checks. His background may disqualify him, so why waste his time/4 years just to find out that he doesn't qualify. There are lots of exciting things to study besides these things! Rule of thumb--if it is working with people, especially children and the elderly, etc. forget it at this point. he needs to be practical.

He could major in business, accounting, computers, quality control, engineering--all kinds--the world needs water specialists, petroleum engineers, instrumentation engineers, urban planners, etc. The Navy takes people will criminal records sometimes--speak with a recruiter first though. With a 4 year degree he would go in as an officer. I'm not sure about the other military services. If he doesn't already speak it, he may want to minor in Spanish or at least take some Spanish classes if he can fit them in.

He will be unemployed if he majors in the humanities, fine arts, or the social sciences. Major in something that actually leads to a job!!

Good luck to you both!!

From my journey & that of my acquaintances, many relationships have a tendency to fail while one guy or woman is going to school and the different does not. One guy or woman is going off and has new reports, meets new human beings and grows in new techniques, mutually as the different one resides enormously lots an identical existence as in the previous. it style of feels like the 1st time they connect up back, they are too diverse. yet there are consistently approaches to make it artwork. the two human beings certainly need to could make it artwork, nonetheless, using fact it relatively is annoying artwork and demands relatively some communique. And there'll be relatively some circumstances in college the place you could sense "held back" by using having a bf -- it relatively is as much as you in identifying for if it relatively is relatively worth making some sacrifices to maintain that alive. relatively, the incontrovertible fact which you're asking this question tells me which you're having some doubts. do no longer low value those. possibly attempt out the long distance factor for a set term and then take a seat and reassess/communicate it after that era to work out in case you the two decide for to maintain going? besides, I wish you good fortune! that's surely obtainable for this to artwork, even though it relatively is going to take some attempt from the two one in each and every of you. no remember what you wind up doing, i wish you have a satisfied and delightful first 365 days at school!

well first off...if you can't do the time dont do the crime and part of the
time is the stigma of your past...

sure there are lots of jobs where it wont matter, he'll never have
a city, state or federal job or anything involving security or
teaching in schools...but he can have a quiet no frills life.

second thing is if you love him and back him in whatever job
choice he makes...that will help him GREATLY...

thirdly, we can never tell you how someone will react to an interview
with him, but if hes really nice and honest like you said and he admits
he did wrong, paid for it and is want to better then he did in the past
someone somewhere is gonna give him a chance...

remmeber for every yes you get for a job you have to have 200+
no's...so it could take a few...

try things like grocery stocker up to 15$ per hour after a few years
janitor 20$ per hour after a few years, car mechanic 30$ per hour
welder 30$ per hour...etc...not a millionaire but thats a nice 2 bedroom
apt and 1 kid and maybe a cat....a nice quiet life...

Well given the fact that I don't know what he was convicted of, I can tell you very little. I can tell you that if he was convicted on drug charges, the he will qualify for NO federal aid. Which can be discouraging. If you would tell us what he did and what he wants to be we may be able to give you better advice. I do know that many states have programs for past offenders that offer them a way into colleges, regardless of background. Usually though if he wants to be a doctor or a teacher, and anything dealing with public welfare, a lot of convictions will not land you that career, and I know you don't want judgment, but this is why kids need to learn, that things they do when they are younger will affect their future. I'm not passing judgment, because I wasn't perfect, but it's just important for him to remember if bye chance he gets a career of his choice that he take it very seriously and be overly grateful for it. Because a lot of people don't get that chance.
