Does anyone else have a grow a frog kit? I have had the tadpole for 2 weeks now. When do I change some of its water?

According to this website:http://www.growafrog.com/questad.html

"Please change 1/4 of the water in you tadpole habitat, weekly. Just pour out about 1/4 of the water, and add back the same amount of Spring Water. Partial water changes refresh the habitat, yet do not destroy the eco-system."

"Use only bottled Spring Water to grow tadpoles. NEVER use tap water. Make sure source of the spring appears on the label of the bottled water as labeling may be otherwise confusing. Fill the Tad-pool with spring water. Leave an inch or so airspace at the top so your tadpole can breathe. Feed one LEVEL spoon of Stage One Food every day. Change 1/4 of the water once a week with bottled spring water. STOP feeding Stage One Food when the front arms emerge. START feeding StAGE TWO Food when your tadpole has about a 1/2 inch tail and looks very much like a frog.

Spring Water labels can be confusing. We recommend Evian because it is available nationally. Of course, it also tends to be the most expensive. There are many, many Spring Water brands available, usually in gallon containers, that are great and are relatively inexpensive...ususally less than .99 a gallon. Please look for the name of the spring the water comes from on the label. Usually it says something like Source - Bear Mountain Springs, Uphigh Pennsylvania....or something to that effect. Do not use 'purified' water.... this is just tap water that has gone through a purification system (usually reverse osmosis). Spring Water is a much better alternative for your tadpole. By the way, if you happen to live near a real spring, lake, or river... that water will do fine."

Enjoy your time watching your tabpole ...and then your frog :)

I took a look at the website mentioned in the answer above. Yep, that's what they said! (I wonder if they own stock in Evian?) You'd better know something about the water quality of any body of water before using it - there can be parasitic organisms or chemicals you don't want to introduce to your frog's home.

Tap water will be just fine for the tadpoles. I've raised wood frog, green frog, american toad, spring peepers, axolotls, and spotted salamanders in it (and none turned out two-headed or six-legged). Either add something to take the chlorine/chloramine out of the tap water and let it come to room temperature, or let it sit at least 24 hrs in an open container. Then proceed with the 25% water change weekly. see websites in source for more tapole raising tips
