My question is: Is it safe to have at home?I mean does it cause any reaction? or something like that? or astrologically safe? ... ?
all these years these questions never raised in my mind..
now i just want to know.....

All mention about the poisonous substance, and the truth is true.

In addition, you are bound to radioactive rays, which will kill your cell without you knowing it.

In the lab it is put in a DARK GLASS containers.
1) DARK - to prevent sunlight from further EXCITE the molecule to unstable state.
2) GLASS – to prevent it to change to other substance

if you keep it hermetically sealed, it should be okay. You can put a balloon over the opening to make sure; so long as the balloon is not flat, that means the fumes from the mercury are contained and not leaking out...of course, perhaps you don't want to put your trust in just some balloon. The safest bet is to take it away to a local college somewhere; mercury emits dangerous fumes which are toxic (mercury itself being toxic)...so long as you're in a well ventilated area, you'll be okay for the most part, but its not really something you want to keep around the house and play with.

Mercury is toxic and is absorbed through the skin. It is one of the 3 heavy metal contaminants you hear about, cadmium, lead and mercury. The saying "mad as a hatter", like "The Mad Hatter" in the children's story came from people who made hats long ago, using felt and mercury, some of which was absorbed into their bodies ,resulting in impaired mental functioning.

You can get mercury poisoning from it if you play with it. As a nurse if we break a mercury thermometer we have to take specific precautions to clean it up. Perhaps you should take it to a pharmacy or somewhere safe to dispose of it safely.

it is poisonous. The term "mad as a hater" comes from back in the day when a Mercury compound was used in hat production and the haters would lick their fingers before folding the material, ingesting Hg and eventually causing dementia

Over time, if enough is absorbed into your system--through skin or inhalation of mercury vapors, SERIOUS physiological symptons/problems can occur. Just like lead poisoning. If you decide to get rid of it, you also MUST dispose of it properly. Just throwing it into your garbage bin for streetside pickup is illegal. for more info, visit the following website, it has cool info about all the elements and their uses and/or dangers.

Well it is safe if you keep it safe enough but think about this... If you get a tinyyyy bit of that in your system or even to your pets if you got any you guys can die. It will clog your veins and will give you a stroke. I wouldnt keep mercury in our house. like why..... lol but if u want it for decoration just be sure u keep it really really safe.

you played with it??? one time a thermometer broke open and i was scared because the mercury balled up all over my sink.. i know that people who work in those mines underground get exposed to mercury dust and that's what kills. i don't think that having it in your house is bad, but touching it might be harmful..

the container should be pastic or glass
keeping mercuy can dissolve gold ornaments
If kept inside a tree trunk, one drop can burn down and dry the whole tree
