We Filipinos are as family-oriented as our Mexican fellows. The Philippines and Mexico are pre-dominantly Catholic nations and cultures were greatly influenced by that of Spain's. Filipinos and Mexicans also appreciate more the finer things in life: love, friendship, family and faith.

Filipinos and Mexicans MAY have Spanish ancestry but not necessarily for the whole population.

The correct explanation is that both were Spanish colonies and therefore inherited things Spanish in terms of religion (Spanish-style Catholicism), architecture, land gentrification and system of government. The Philippines were also under US rule for quite a long period therefore explaining the heavy American influence in the system of government and the predominant use of the English Language.

Although Tagalog is not part of the Romance language family, it has many borrowed Spanish words and terms. As Filipinos embraced Christianity, many so-called Christian names were used and they traditionally reflect Spanish roots and spelling like Manuel, Fidel, Corazon, Ferdinand, Imelda, Amores, Miguel etc.

I would say there is also a marked similarity in Agricultural Land Gentrification between the Philippines and their Hispanics Cousin that has led to the massive immigration to North America in search of the dream to own properties and real estate which sometimes can prove to be difficult and almost unattainable in the native countries due to land policies inherited from the Spanish.

well mate....being a "flip" myself i can draw a list but won't.

manila & mexico city are almost like sister cities for the fact the people share same spanish heritage/ancestry, in terms of religion (catholicism); mentality (hot-blooded); cooking style (espanol-inspired); and i dare say driving habits (traffic).

pope john paul II visited both cities respectively more than anyother outside rome or italy.

the philippines should be in latin america or at very least on the iberian peninsula w/ spain & portugal rather than in asia.

say, you wouldn't happen to be filipino, having asked this interesting question. :-)
