i know they go up to the surface to breath but he is just floating. usually they just dart up and return to the bottom quickly.. i know they are tropical water but it is in a 40 gallon golfish aquarium... i have the light on all day and the only fish in there is a full grown black moor he is very gentl and not aggressive and i have a small goldfish.. a chololate oranda?? i think thats what its called.. but i have always had dwarf frogs in with them for the past dew years and have never had problmes with them... i have 3 in there.. but the light is always on all day.. i turn it off at night.

Even though they dont breath the water they are still really sensitive to ammonia and nitrite so he could be floating at the top because of the water and putting him in a cycling tank (the one running for 2 weeks is not cycled) is a bad idea.
Its hard with frogs because they often come out the pet store with parasites and they are sensitive to what they eat, they get intestinal issues alot. Dont overfeed him and try to give him small amounts of soft foods, maybe presoak the dry food before giving to him. The best you can do is make sure the water temp is good and there isnt lots of waste in the water and especially that you dont change the pH drastically because thier skin is sensitive to that too.

I'd suggest soaking the BS for a while prior to feeding. They really should sink... ADFs are best kept in multiples, but you need to have the space. How many you can keep depends on how large your aquarium is. How large is is? Also depends on your equipment. (Heater, filter, etc.) Edit: Oh yes, get several more. You have plenty of room, and they'll be happier in a group. Depending on your aquarium shape, it is likely between 12-20 inches high. If it's over 12 inches, be sure to include some floating plants, floating ornaments, or surface reaching plants/ornaments for your froggies to cling to while resting at the surface. Taller aquariums make surfacing for oxygen more difficult for these little critters, and they can use some help. (Never keep them in anything over 20 inches high.) Good luck.

As long as he still occasionally goes back down he should be fine. They kind of float in a 'zen' position for long periods of time, some frogs more than others. Is he eating? He's not bloated? don'y put him into an uncycled aquarium unless you are willing to test frequently for ammonia and nitrite and do water changes whenever you see any readings at all for them.

perfecly normal for the frog to go to the top sand float, mine does the same thing. do you have a "hiding place" for the frog to go into? my frog loves to hide in the decorative cave we have in out tank.

That sounds normal. They do that from time to time. They have to go to the surface to breath.
