Laying flat on your back compresses blood vessels, which can be bad for both you and your baby. but most doctors say, as long as you are comfy, sleep however you want. at 25 weeks i could also still lay on my back, but now at 35 weeks, it is impossibly uncomfortable. if you do want to keep sleeping on your back, try to prop yourself up so you arent flat. and try to get used to side positions, as you will probably have to switch soon.

I was told that by the sixth month it's kind of hard on your kidneys. I've never heard of it clogging your arteries though. Well I guess it lowers the blood supply to the kidneys maybe? Of course you get to the hospital and how do they have you lay down? On your back! LOL I found that when I was pregnant I also liked support on my back! Some options are 1) move your bed against the wall and lean your back against it. 2) after your honey falls asleep sneak out to the couch. 3)Get a body pillow and put it against your sweetie. Lean on up against it.
I was always a side sleeper until I got pregnant! Then I wanted to be on my back! I think it's because I was warmer and sweatier and I felt like the air could circulate around me better on my back. A pillow between the legs helps cool you down sometimes and so does some nice breathable maternity pajamas. They wick away the sweat better than sleeping nude!
Good luck!

They say if you lay on your side that the blood flow to you and baby is better (especially if you lay on the left side), I am 31 weeks and will occasionally lay on my back sometimes the further along you get laying on your back can make you feel short of breath or just in general uncomfortable so I feel like your body will tell you when you need to stop laying on your back.

It is not recommended later in pregnancy...you'll find that you probably won't even want to by then.
Not to mention the fact that you have no control on your positions while sleeping, only before you sleep and after you wake up. If it is because you can't find any other comfortable positions, I suggest pillows..they are your new best friend.

Its not the best way to sleep when you are pregnant because as your baby gets heavier the weight can restrict blood flow to baby may also cause you to feel faint. If you want to sleep on your back try propping yourself up so you are not so flat.

I've never heard that. The baby is in your Uterus and your Uterus is in your pelvic cavity and not directly laying on blood vessels, inhibiting blood flow. It's possible you can impinge maybe your vagus nerve but I don't think your blood vessels would be affected. If you're concerned about it, though, ask you Doctor, who should be the final authority in such matters!

It is best for circulation to sleep on your side preferably the left side. Many pregnant women sleep on their back but it is recommended not to because the baby can put pressure and cut off the good circulation.

I know its more comfortable, but you should really try not to. The largest blood vessel in you rbody lays right under your baby and when your on your back for long periods it can cause the blood flow to slow to your baby.

lol...laying on your left side is best because it helps your lymphatic system drain.
I liked sleeping on my back, but learned to sleep on one side...my RIGHT.
I suffered preeclampsia during the last 4 weeks, and every time the nurse had me lay on the left, my blood pressure went back down closer to normal.
I would recommend laying on your left side if you can.

If you're comfortable on your back, you can lie on your back. Doing it can reduce blood flow, but it will make you feel light headed, stuffy, nauseated, headachy, breathless, etc. LONG before you do any harm to your baby, so you won't stay in that position if it's a problem.
