If you wanted you could even have the shower AFTER the baby was born!

Do it the way YOU want

No this is a really good time to have your baby shower, 2 weeks notice is normally a good idea, and you still have 9 weeks to go so you will be able to take your mind off the baby (taking its time, as it seems to do in the last few weeks) and enjoy having coffee with all your friends and family before the baby comes. There are plenty of good games to look at that will be fun to try and guess the date time and weight of your baby, its always good to be this big and beautiful playing the guessing game. You should have fun and this may be the last time you can all get together as a big group before the baby comes so do it and have your baby shower. Enjoy, its great to be pampered.

Not at all. All you need is a couple weeks. Send out the invites asap and have the shower in a couple of weeks. It's not like you have to spend a long time planning it.

Buy invitiations.
Decide on the location and time. (reserve it if necessary)
Make guest list.
Address and send out invites.
Order cake to be picked up that day.
Decide on food. (A couple party platters and maybe some sandwiches, deviled eggs and cookies... or whatever)
Pick up a few baby shower decorations.
Plan a few games.
Pick up a few inexpensive prizes for the games (scent body lotion, nice candle, etc.)
Buy some baby shower favors, or not (not necessary).
Go and pick up some blow-up ballons the morning of.
Decorate.

Have FUN.

Send thank you cards for gifts.

It's never too late for a baby shower...I've even heard of people having the shower after the baby is born.

I had one shower when I was 6 months pregnant and then I had another when I was close to 8 months...

No not at all! Unless the mother in question is a hysterical whiney witch! It sometimes comes with pregnancy unfortunately!

I had a perfectly lovely shower once 2 months after I had a baby! Everybody was waiting to see if I'd finally get my girl and knew that if at all possible I wanted as many pink things surrounding her as I could get. So they all waited until after my darling was safely born, over jaundice and definitely determined to be female!

no, definitely not! just do it quickly. I had my shower at about 32 weeks. Definitely have the mom go and register right away, if she hasn't already. and then plan one for maybe 2 weeks from now, so your guests can have a little notice. You can totally throw a shower together that quickly. good luck!
