Don't use Chlorine to wash...

Not sure if you mean the water is already choloranted? If so, I would recommend a water filter. Pricey but worth it. Failing that use a non-bio powder at low temperatues.

If you are adding chlorine, then just use an oxygen based bleach and check on the label it is chlorine free. However, today's detergents are so advanced that bleach isn't really necessary anymore.

Don't wash them in chlorinated water...

Chlorine forms a weak solution of hypochlorous acid in water, which acts as a mild bleach. Really about all you can do is pre-treat your water, or add something to your wash to neutralise the hypochlorous acid. But adding more chemicals to the wash may also damage your clothes, so you need to be very cautious.

You can buy a product most aquarium owners are familiar with to dechlorinate water for their fish tanks, or even simpler- fill the washer 24 hours before use and the chlorine will evaporate.

Chlorine is a bleach. Better to use something like "Vanish" Oxymax.
