I lived in Boston for nine years and enjoyed it but it's not my favorite place in the US to live. The winters were harsh and some of the people can be quite racist. On the other hand, it has lots of culture and historical sites with a very pretty river area and neighborhoods like Beacon Hill. There's about 50 universities and colleges in the metro area so a lot of nightlife, music, academic and research opportunities. There's also great hospitals. And, as others said, it is pretty expensive. It's a sports fanatic city.

This is my take on Boston... and it revolves around this highly accurate quote...
"The Boston accent is more of an attitude than an accent. Underneath everything you say has to be the attitude of 'You're an assh*le, I know I'm better than you, f*ck you."
Born and raised here.. this is my view... we hate tourists, we think we're better and tougher than other cities (and we are :), we're not sell outs. We're rough and tough.. move along.. don't bother us.. say what you have to say and move on... quit wasting my time.. etc etc.. :)
We're nice people, honest!
Boston is a great city and gets a lot of tourists but I don't think you can appreciate Boston for what it really is until you stop being a tourist and just be Boston. To be honest, we laugh at Duck tours.. just get in there... go to some awesome pubs and bars, dance at some great college clubs, get on the T and explore, act like you own the place..
The winters are brutal, but you tough it out and enjoy the wonderful summers.
In terms of stuff to do.. great eats (GREAT EATS), good shopping, tons of bars and clubs (but not like NYC clubs.. lower cover charge and not as much glitz and glamour, which is a good thing), and tons of history. Appreciate the fact that you're walking on the same cobblestone as so many great people in the past. You can visit the grave of Paul Revere and stop into churches and halls and schools that were built around the civil war.
All in all, I could never live elsewhere

It's a great city. Some stuff depends on how old you are.For any age, there is alot to see and do during the day.
The nightclubs are mostly 21+,but soem do have 19+ nights. There is a pretty big "euro" scene here, the dance clubs playing alot of techno type music-especially the "touristy" clubs, downtown and near the colleges, but if you are into rock-n-roll,jazz,blues or any other types of music-you can find that as well. There are alot of live music venues/bars around town also in Cambridge, across the river and not far from Downtown Boston.
Pick up one of the many free papers around town and you can find anything listed from where to eat to what museums are showing or what movies are playing,(there's a good 'art-cinema' scene here also).
The Boston Phoenix,The Improper Bostonian,or Stuff at Night are great local resources.Look up stuff on the web before you go-all of the mentioned papers have wesites with all the info that you'll need.
It's a safe city, just use your head and don't travel around,at night by yourself.
Travel to the surrounding areas,if you have time as well.Take a 2 day trip to Cape Cod,it's beautiful-or up to Kittery,Maine for great outlet shopping and beautiful beaches, nearby.
You'll love it here! Good luck!!

I have lived in boston for my whole life (25 years) and I have also traveled all of Europe and lived in London for six months. With that said, there is no other place on earth I would rather live than Boston! (especially during baseball season!) The bars are packed and there are some pretty great clubs also (Landsdowne street and Fanuiel Hall!) It's a great place and worth the trip!
However, take it for what it's worth...they don't call us Massholes for nothing!!! :)

Boston is alluring, that is one among the cleanest city I actually have ever been to. I moved right here from MI so the coldness and snow is a few thing I actually have hated my finished existence. i ought to say there's a lot extra snow right here than i'm used to, so no i do compared to each and every of the snow.

I love Boston. There is a lot to do, and summer is a great time to come. I'm sure you'll be able to keep busy! Boston is similar to a lot of big cities, I guess it depends what you're used to.

Boston is a great town. Lots to do and several colleges. For another good Boston song try Boston your my home (the "love that dirty water" song).

I love Boston... there's so much history here!! And great restaurants.
Our taxes are actually about average (lower sales taxes than many states, comparable income taxes, higher property taxes). The cost of living is pretty high though.

Boston is a great place to live but the taxes will kill you. They don't call us Taxachussetts for nothing.
