hmmmmm.... not just language different dialects too. We have it here in the states to, just not as noticeable. think of the south, many talk slower than the fast pace NY'er... or the northern/Midwest in Fargo, very different. Now think about 100 or 1000 years of time passing. Words change, and rules change and its a whole new language. Look at the Scot's the Irish, and the British same thing all speak English tho tough to understand some of them...

This is a easy question to answer. Countries speak differently cause they had a king ruling over the masses. Take Sweden for a example. They speak Swedish, but very close is Norway and Denmark and Finland. Sweden was very aggressive before so they captured a part of russia, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania. In most of those countries they have people still speaking Swedish. Finland has a upper-class witch is the Swedish speaking along the cost towards Sweden. Norway is/was very similar to swedish so i don't think they ever spoke Swedish, but they did not need that couse they can understand eachother anyway, same with Denmark. English was spoken in many colonies captured bu the UK, many ppl took of to America and decided there should be one official language. That was before, now its different since Mexicans are soon the majoroty, they got there language from Spain, since spain has been just about everyware along with its neigbur Portugal. So Latin america speak languages from Spain and Portugal.
English is a fairly easy language to learn for Europeans since it came from the Germanic base, so did most other languages in Europe. What does that mean? Well we speak just about the same but we have different words for it. Finland is a exeption they have the same rots as Hungary.

In China they speak many languages today but the most common is Mandarin followed by the second large language spoken in GuangDong and Hong Kong Cantoneese. In order to make everyone able to understand, every teacher in China has to speak Mandarin, i think its a good thing and i hope many will "copy" that concept.

Dude, if this interests you, you should see the movie "Babel".

We speak different languages obviously due to geographic limitations in the early development of Man.

However, the trend these days is Westernization. I attended a summit in Japan recently where the guests were Korean and Chinese. Although there were no persons representing English speaking countries in attendance, the language spoken there was solely English.

This trend stands true in other avenues such as aviation. Airplane pilots in non English speaking countries use a lot of English to communicate with each other.

So I guess what I'm saying is, although countries spoke different languages in the past, the modern trends tend to lean toward the development of English as a universal language.

How bout hookin it up with a best answer?

properly, imagine about communique for a second. the internet is purely a sparkling element. Even the phone is rather new - 50 years in the past a decision from one united states of america to a unique would have fee a fortune. each united states of america has advanced personally for 1000's of years, so as that explains the reason each united states of america speaks a distinct language. the different difficulty is presented in figuring out which language must be international. on the prompt, English is the most straight forward language spoken through non-close by audio device. although, it doesn't propose different languages will bypass away. i assume you're an English speaker. are you able to imagine if someone declared that your united states of america would now communicate German, and your language will be erased from the planet? you'd be very aggravated, rather because the language has cultural magnitude! it is more suitable than purely an invaluable device. that is stuffed with words and words that come out of your united states of america's heritage. No-one needs to renounce their personal language. check out Wales, a minor united states of america interior the united kingdom. popular for actually no longer something, yet they decline to renounce their personal language because they're pleased with it. And if that tiny united states of america is proud, imagine someplace like France or Spain or Japan. distinct languages will be round for an exceedingly, very lengthy time period. to boot, there'll continually be dialects. How did you recognize the human beings in Australia are studying a similar English as us? and how do you're making advantageous human beings's pronunciation continues to be a similar in the course of the international? there is not any way we may be able to all sound similar;)

Because different languages developed in different places?

If people had the ability to instantly communicate around the world like we do now while language was developing, then it wouldn't have happened--but then it's kinda hard to develop instantaneous worldwide communication withou language (which is necesary for communication) first. Quite a pickle.

Well if you want to look at it from a biblical view, then it was because of that Babel incident where God made everyone speak a different language so that they could not cooperate to build that big, dunno what thing. Ladder to heaven I think. Or some big shopping mall?
