I am an old man and my life has been a search to know myself and I am still learning. By analogy introspection gives some knowledge of others because we are quite alike it seems. I am not afraid or ashamed of what I have found out so far. I am a "mentally ill" old man so have had some experience in learning about something supernatural (what is commonly referred to as God).

Good question, i'm not afraid to know myself what i'm afraid of is believing i am someone and then realising i'm not, that i am completely different.
Perhaps being influenced by how i grew up, how i was raised and who i associated with gave me a false image of who i was, when left to my own devices with control over myself i might just discover i am someone else...does that make any sense at all??

No, because I believe that if you are afraid to find out who you are, then you end up lying to yourself about your qualities/ faults.

We need to investigate all the time what we are, and strive towards improving. We may lie to others, but the moment we lie to ourselves, we're paving the way for misery

I'm not afraid to know myself, but I sure would like to know myself. It's hard to see yourself as misconceiving things in your life which is the opposite to others who view the situations and attributes they observe about you.

What do you mean by knowing yourself? A person, to know himself, has to first distinguish between what he thinks and what he actually does. I can think of a thousand things and finally do one of those. When we try to know ourselves, we will judge it based on the thousand thoughts and not just the one action we did. Infact, we actually are the ONE thing that we did out of the thousand options. People judge us by what we do and not by what we think. It is scary when i try to know myself, because I have a lot of thoughts that are bad, scary, immoral......but am I actally that person? Maybe not. To know the real you, can never be scary unless people around you are scared of you.

I am not scared. The point is that we never really know who we are. Sometimes, when we face an unusual, odd, or critical situation, we react in ways we'd never imagined. So I guess we are like a river; we know it is made of water, but we can't say what it hides under the water....

Good question......

I have only known myself through my dreams.... It is the only place where a lie cannot be told...... and there, I know myself, my past and my future...... I have nothing to fear in this life except God take away my understanding and destroy the little knowledge He had given me when I first began to understand who I am.......
