Quite an insightful question.... must think through before doing some justice to it.

Love for another person is the result of our being social.... if we did not prefer to have family and society, I can't see how love could arise at all. We chose family and society as our way of life to strengthen a sense of security.... we human beings are much more insecure when alone and on one's own due to our physical make up and build. Co-operation was a must for us to survive. Being intelligent, we realized that give and take can further strengthen co-operation on a sustained basis. As the next stage, we further realized that a one-to-one relationship could make for the best building-bricks for a total co-operation amongst a large group. I believe that this is what pulled as well as pushed us to 'love relationship' with another person.

Therefore, at the root of love for another person is this fundamental instinct of strengthening our sense of security.... in other words to counter a higher level of insecurity felt when all alone.

I hesitated to answer this as I'm 74 and beyond the need for romantic love but I still do love. I learned early in life that you are never alone so I don't need to love for that reason. I love life and that is because I have come close to losing it. I love people that is because they are our reason for being. We are all in life together and we all face the threat of its end, not together but each alone. I think death is probably the most lonely thing one has to do (with the possible* exception of giving birth) but we are never alone even there.

Absolutely, when we run the river deep on this question the only answer can be YES. We love so that we may know ourselves and gain further understanding, when we are without there is no within. We connect with objects, people and experiences to reflect our inner self. Love is a deep connection and without it we fail to recognize what is, and when this is the case we would inevitably feel alone...............

I have, and it's quite addictive if you're a good actor- you start believing your performance and the waking-up moment is quite a cold shower, but it all comes to the fact that people should never be alone and if the suitable person is not around- one finds an on-hand substitude.
Cheers!

No, I think being alone is also nice.
I love because I think loving others if good for me. It makes me feel happy and keeps me healthier.
I don't attach expectations to love though - thats the sureshot way to hell!

Romantically? No. I refuse to "fall in love" it's just plain silly.

Do I love my daughter, my family, and my cats not to feel alone? No.

Yes......If someone wants to be left alone.....the reason will be that they love themselves too and want some time alone.

No.... Are we ever alone?..... The question is akin to a mind that dares to stop thinking?.... Is there a possibility of truth to it?.... No!..... The mind is as constantly aware as it is aware when it is asleep...... Are we ever alone?.... no!.... It is impossible.....

We are only alone when we focus on thinking that we are alone.... No so hard to trick ourselves into believing it.... But, it's impossible!!!
