If we act afraid to say words are we not giving the word more power to destroy?
The word I used is most prevelent in western society although all over the place there are such words and when is it okay to say those words when its your own culture? How is this right?

The only way any word can have power over someone or any situation is if it allowed. The word you are talking about is used as an insult to a group of people and is insulting. What gets me is the fact that no-one has bothered to look it up in the dictionary. It means to be stingy, miserly, thrifty etc. check it out. It can also mean to be dirty, trashy, or unhealthy. That can apply to anyone in any society. I am truly ashamed that my southern ancestors were so ignorent.

No. Refusing to acknowledge a word deprives it of all meaning. It eventually falls out of common usage, and becomes obsolete. For instance, the word "haker", which is not found in the dictionary, means "an idle fellow". (Dictionary of Obsolete and Provincial English) Similarly, the word "ain't" was not a word in the dictionary when I was young, but because of common usage, it was eventually included. The "N" word is associated with a particular group of people in a derogatory way, and implies facts that are not in evidence. That word used to be defined in the dictionary as "a lazy, shiftless person", but the origin of the word itself is "*****", and so has always had negative association with black people in particular since the middle 1600's. It always has been offensive, and it has sparked violence and acrimony. The word and its association should be relegated to the obsolete.

No. It's a word that carries a lot of hated and anger and it should not be used by anyone - even by the people within the culture that it was used to offend. Changing a letter or two of the original word does not make it anymore acceptable either.

No, because ppl complained about blacks sayin it and the rest of America' restrictions on saying the word. Many Early Americans said it in the past and it was in a deragatory way. Since the original word was abused, no one should say it, including blacks in rap songs. Discipline and not saying it will tornish it's history and meaning. It will be forgotten and a big save for the future.
