Socialism is just a cop-out. They'll learn that 80% taxes just can't compete with free-market innovation. People may be dumb, but they're trying to become smarter, damnit.

Possibly, but the courts granting new rights every day will eventually erode the social state in Canada.
Take for instance the right to buy health care. The social state was imposed on the people, limiting their individual rights to buy healthcare in Canada. Now with the Supreme Court ruling, private health care is coming to Canada, and the social state can not prevent it, without removing personal rights and freedoms.
The social state has also lost the battle on so called 'grey market' satelite dishes. The socialist CRTC, which controlled what Canadians were allowed to watch, was told by the courts that the individual freedoms of Canadians trumped the reasons the CRTC would not allow a station to be seen in Canada.
Currently, there is an ongoing dispute with the Canada Wheat Board where personal property rights are taken away from farmers due to the socialist board and their geography.
So although our individual rights and freedoms were eroded for socialism, it is the same left wing judges that are trumpeting individual rights over the socialism.

We haven't traded anything.
We have a lot more freedom and rights than our paranoid neighbour to the south.
Next time give us at least one example of what freedoms we have abandoned.
There are a lot of nations with strong social safety nets, Britain, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, France, Australia....just to name a few.
At least if we get sick, someone will tend to us without question.
I certainly hope that national health care, availability of education and the right to shelter isn't the way you define "socialism".
We elected our representatives and told them what we want. That's the result.
Our absolute highest tax rate is 52% and income would have to exceed $500,000 for that to kick in. The average Canadian pays tax at a rate of 22 - 25 %.

Canada is a very free country.
I am not concerned about my government putting me under surveillance without warrant. I am guaranteed due process.
I can voice an opinion without fear of arrest.
I can burn my countries flag (it isn't illegal)
I have the right to examine any government proceeding due to the freedom of information act.
I have the right to reserve my information, under the Canadian privacy act I am not required to provide any information if it isn't essential to a service.
Canada is a very free country.

individual freedoms/rights and socialism aren't mutually exclusive. I'm not too sure what Canadian laws you're referring to which are taking away your rights, but whatever laws you are talking about are probably authoritarian and not socialist in nature.

Canada has free access to doctors and hospital. It has lower priced drugs that you might buy some day. Over a certain spending on drugs people get them free. They have an excellent free market economy. What freedoms don't they have?

Which ones?
The one to do what ever to themselves they want? We lost those here in the states in the mid 1930s I believe.
Ohh, wait, Which side just added the need for passports to get back in? I swear, I know this one...
