The 1950's was a time of conformity, rocked by those who refused to. Elvis shook his hips but the Ed Sullivan show only showed him from the waist up. While women worked during world war two, they were encouraged to cook like Betty Crocker and look like Donna Reed. Television was a power that I am sure most people did not understand the scope of. Still, there were attempts to keep America tradtitional. I believe that's why the 1960's were seen as the birth of the cultural revolution.

Music was just beginning to be rock and roll. The wives stayed home with the kids and the husband worked and supported them. If you watch Happy Days, that's a good idea of life then. Television was black and white. They had antennas outside and you had to go outside and turn them to get a better picture. Nobody showed belly buttons on TV or wore sexy nightgowns.
