Look, urine contains all kinds of great elements. But you don't have to drink it to get those elements. The problem is that urine can contain *other* items that are not good for you. Toxified blood comes to mind, from any internal bleeding inthe digestive tract. Amonia also comes to mind. If you eat a high protein diet and exercise hard, you will excrete a fairly high amount of ammonia. And you should not drink it.
The fact that urine contains beneficial elements does not mean that drinking urine straight from the urethra is good for you. Orange juice with strychnine in it is still high in vitamin C. It's the other stuff that kills you.
And the fact that other health practices are bad for you does not make drinking urine good for you. That's just a straw man argument.
And the defense that no studies have ever been done on it because there is no profit in such studies is untenable when you consider that studies on the efficacy of acupuncture, aromatherapy, and even laughter *have* been done and have shown a certain degree of effectiveness. What about studies on the drinking of urine in Indian research schools or hospitals? Have they attempted to document the pracrtice? I will also add that studies on bioelectronics were done in the 30's and those results still exist today even though further studies were abandoned. So what did any studies on urine therapy conclude in the 1940's?
The drinking of urine comes from an Indian practice that has definite roots in spiritual disciplines and has a stated goal of attaining immortality. I have not yet seen any immortals coming over from India as proof of its efficacy. But it definitely was something that was part and parcel of a system that saw spiritual enlightenment and health as combined practices and as part of a discipline that has roots in subjugating the physical body in favor of developing mental and spiritual strengths. Hopping the practice over into secular medicine may be too much of a jump.
I approve of being open minded, but even though narrow mindedness is an error we want to avoid, there is such a thing as an error in the exact opposite direction. Accepting every directive for alternative medicine because it's an age old practice from another civilization is too open minded. After all, India is not a country that stands out in my mind as having reknown for a high level of health and well being. And a lot of their folk traditions were downright detrimental to a healthy standard of living. Just like a lot of European and American folk traditions.

....well funny because my mother thought the same thing. She's diabetic and one of her friends told her drinking her own pee will help keep her sugar low.
She tried it for an entire week....each morning....and let me tell you it was not something nice to see.
My mom stopped doing it for the fact that she saw no change. Now she just sticks to her medicines.
From my mothers experience she said "FALSE"
....she is telling me however if you do try it....you should wait for it to cool off or put an ice cube in it because it's pretty warm if you take it off the bat.
..hope this little experince my mom had helped you out.
-have a good one.

Only if there are no other sources of hydration, that taste better than pee. Urine is sterile when it first exits the body. It is water and minerals that are filtered through your kidneys. The kidneys add excess minerals, and filters them with water, so drinking your pee could actually be unhealthy because of the sodium content. It is the excess of minerals etc that your body does not need. So, if you are dying of thirst, by all means, drink the pee. But if not, there are plenty of other libations that will be more enjoyable than urine.

False. Our kidneys process bodily waste products and send the water-soluble ones to the bladder for elimination. You would be drinking things your body wants to be rid of, and can cause a toxic overload. Don't do it, and get new friends. Best of luck.

well it's 95% H2O, so it's not bad. In fact, if you get stuck in a building collapse or stranded in the wilderness, you're supposed to drink your own urine if there is no sanitary water.
It's just water, really, though, so it's not bad for you, but isnt any better than drinking regular water.
